CREATING A COMMUNITY OF GUITARISTS

NEW GUITAR CLASSES STARTING IN JANUARY 2024!

A great way to learn guitar and meet new friends. Or learn with a friend!

Being in small groups can be an inspiring way to learn guitar. We can help and encourage one another. It gives plenty of space to ask questions and play along with others. It also makes the lessons a lot more affordable than individual tuition. We initially follow a tried a tested Method that is unique to ‘Guitar Clubs’. It covers reading chords, tablature, strumming patterns, melody playing, sight reading, songs and fingerstyle. We will explore different styles and techniques, looking at blues, pop, rock, fingerstyle & classical guitar.

Depending on what direction the group would like to move towards, we will provide additional handouts for songs and pieces. Once the basics have been covered, we can move onto grades, if this is what the class would like to pursue.

The teaching studio is set up twice a year to be an exam centre for those that would like to work through the grades.

My intention is to create a local community of guitarists that can learn from one another and progress at their own rate. My hope is that the community expands, and we can introduce workshops with specialist tutors, that can give us the opportunities to learn other styles of playing (Flamenco, jazz, blues, funk, Celtic, alternative tunings etc).

Adult classes

The group lessons are held at the ‘The Gallery’ in Washington. They are an hour long. The classes are for small groups (3-4 students). Each lesson costs £15. They run during term time (10-12 lessons each term).

We have various available slots during the daytime, evenings and Saturdays, depending on when it is most convenient for you.

We aim to provide the opportunity for those having lessons to perform some of what they have been learning to friends and family (or the wider world!) whenever a group feels ready. There is no obligation to do this, unless it’s something that you would like to do.

Children classes

The group lessons are held at the ‘The Gallery’ in Washington. They are half an hour long. The classes are for small groups (3-4 students). Each lesson costs £9. They run during term time (10-12 lessons each term).

We have various available slots after school and Saturdays, depending on when it is most convenient for you.

All the tutors have the enhanced DBS Certification, NSPCC safeguarding training, Public Liability insurance. All the tutors are already teaching guitar in local schools and are very experienced at teaching all age groups. Your child can start lessons once they are 6 years old (year 2). We aim to put the same year groups together where possible.

We aim to provide the opportunity for the children to perform to parents/ carers/ family a couple of times a year.

Exam Centre

By having an exam centre it allows us to organise with the exam board a date towards the end of each term, which gives the pupil that little bit longer to prepare. Where possible we will book the date in on a Sunday which generally makes it easier for students/ parents that are working during the week.
